David N. Weidman is chairman and chief executive officer of Celanese Corporation, a $6.7 billion global hybrid chemical company based in Dallas, Texas, U.S.A. He has served as president and chief executive officer since December 2004, and was appointed chairman by the Board of Directors in February 2007.

Prior to his current appointment, Weidman was vice chairman of the Celanese AG Board of Management from September 2003 and chief operating officer of Celanese AG since January 2002. Weidman joined Celanese AG in September 2000 as a member of the Board of Management and chief executive officer of the company’s chemicals business.

Before joining Celanese, Weidman was vice president and general manager of Allied Signal’s Performance Additives business. His leadership at Allied Signal included appointments as president of Flourine Products and of Performance Polymers. He served as an officer of the company and as a member of the Corporate Executive Council.

Weidman began his career in the chemical industry in 1980 as a business development analyst for American Cyanamid Company in Wayne, N.J.  He held management responsibilities in strategic planning, business development, sales and marketing, acquisition integration and international management in businesses as diverse as specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and agricultural chemicals. In 1990, he was appointed vice president and general manager of the company’s Fibers division.

Weidman is an executive committee member of the American Chemistry Council’s board of directors and serves as chairman of its Finance, Audit and Membership committee.   He is also chairman of the Society of Chemical Industry, America Section, and serves on the National Advisory Council of the Marriott School of Management

During his career, Weidman has lived and worked in Japan, Sweden and Canada, as well as in various U.S. locations.  A native of Tremonton, Utah, he received his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University in 1978 and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in 1980.
